Sometimes paintings tell the artist what they want to be…and this is the case with “The Runner.”  I did not set out with the idea of this person leaning ahead, fists a little clenched, perhaps coming off of the blocks in a meet.  But, early on, the painting directed me to this idea….and didn’t let me waver from the concept.
