Welcome To The Auction!
Arts Night is the region’s premier art auction. Its success relies on the generosity of the community, artists, and patrons who come together and raise funds to benefit the exhibitions and programming of the Visual Arts Center at the Washington Pavilion. Arts Night includes a gala dinner and entertainment followed by the art auction on the Mary W. Sommervold stage at the Washington Pavilion on May 2, 2015. Tickets for the event cost $125 and can be purchased by calling the Visual Arts Center at 605.731.2303. (Note: $65 of the ticket price is considered a tax deductible donation.)
The selection of artwork you see here is currently on display in Contemporary Gallery I in the Visual Arts Center in an exhibition titled Sina Qua Non: Community, Artists, Pavilion. The artwork was selected through a jurying process facilitated by Visual Arts Center staff and features pieces from some of the most beloved artists in the region.
Background: In its second year of existence, the Sioux Falls Civic Fine Arts Center (CFAC) started Arts Night in 1962. Arts Night was started as a fundraising auction, but to the delight of CFAC founders, it vicariously contributed to the vibrancy of Sioux Falls as a whole. It also extenuated the artists’ ability to display their artwork and the community’s ability to obtain a stronger grasp of the artists in their community. In 1999, the CFAC moved into the Washington Pavilion and was renamed the Visual Arts Center. Following the CFAC tradition started 54 years ago, people attend Arts Night each year to view regional artwork, to add new, distinctive pieces to their collections, and to financially support this art institution. It is with gratitude, humility, and respect for our grassroots beginnings that we come together to celebrate Arts Night on May 2, 2015.
